This is a short blog post for the few books that I have come across so far dealing with being intersexed or with asexuaity. If you come across others, please send the titles along - I’d really like to expand these categories!
Eugenides, Jeffrey. Middlesex. 2007. Picador USA.
Calliope was born with a recessive gene, 5-alpha-reductase deficiency, being born with the characteristics of a female. When he learns about the syndrome in his adolescence, he begins to live as male Cal. (Grades 10-12.)
Hulme, Keri. The Bone People. 1986. Penguin Books.
An unusual book that explores the complex relationships between three emotional outcasts of mixed European and Maori descent. One of the few books to feature a character easily read as asexual. (Grades 10-12.)
